Support Education using Computers

Why? A computer is an educational tool that helps one build skills. Like a dedicated tutor it allows a student to: work on accuracy and speed in math equations; explore new lands in geography; expand science knowledge and more. Teachers use EdTech Applications like an additional textbook.

With access to the Internet a computer becomes a path to a world of knowledge and possibilities. Code.org is designed for grammar school and adapts to all learning levels. But it all starts – with students learning in school computer labs.

Update Software in the Computer Labs

Why? To safely run the Internet, computers need to be updated. Ask your sponsored church school- Are your computer labs up to date? If the last update was before 2022, consider running “Major Software Update 11-23” on the existing student computer lab. “Major Software Update 11-23” arrived in Haiti by 1/24. Finance Solar Powered Computer Labs

Why? Government power is unreliable and fuel for generators is expensive. Support a move towards power independence with solar powered school computer labs. For more information on lessons learned click on Solar Powered Computer Labs

Support Starlink Internet

Why? After Covid-19, FREE online K-12 online education exploded. MOOC websites, like OpenCulture, offer links to a vast collection of K-12 resources. In a country where less than half of the rural students have access to their own math or reading textbook; EdTech resources and applications ARE that extra textbook!

Support a school connection to Starlink Internet. Don’t forget -the monthly fees can be steep relative to income levels. Starlink Internet runs well in Haiti.

Gather Preowned Laptops

Why? French Educational Software runs primarily on Open Operating Systems (OS). Also, Open Source OS needs much less RAM than Microsoft OS, so we can effectively recycle computers that no longer meet the needs of the proprietary OS. Any Dell, HP or… laptop running an outdated version of Windows can have a new life in a school computer lab in Haiti. Just 2GB of RAM, a decent battery and working parts is all we need. Then – Haiti school children will get an up-to-date computer running great educational and office suite software.

Donate Money 4 Computer Parts

Why? With a small amount of money we can: upgrade to 4GB of RAM (sorely needed); or replace a poor but not yet failed battery (see Solar Powered Computer Labs to understand more); or buy power adapters to replace broken or missing ones; or perhaps offset the extra luggage costs for the traveler willing to carry the 3rd or 4th suitcase to Haiti.

Join a Cruise Or

Join a cruise that stops at a location in the Dominican Republic or Haiti; or stay at an all-inclusive Caribbean resort with stunning beaches and exciting daily excursions. Bring along a suitcase (or two) of computers to our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Ten friends recently joined such a cruise. They carried an extra suitcase onboard. Everything else was handled for them. 12 schools got computers because they cared enough to help! Please consider joining us in one of these efforts!
